TIMS

Our former project, "Pre-Strategic Initiative for Materials Science", changed some part of its contents and structure, and was adopted by the Organization for the Support and Development of Strategic Initiatives as"Strategic Initiative (A)" (SI-IMS) in July 14th, 2008. The duration is for three years, and it is until the end of academic year 2010-2011.

Three Principal Investigator(PI) of the International Center for Materials Nanoarchitectonics (MANA) at National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) joined in SI-IMS. To add to the previous activities from Pre-SI-IMS, SI-IMS cooperates with MANA and function as the Satellite of University of Tsukuba and MANA.

Objectives

The objectives of SI-IMS are:
  • Examining a future plan for TIMS (Tsukuba Research Center for Interdisciplinary Materials Science).

  • Unifying individuals, departments, and research institutes in the cross-disciplinary studies for obtaining large-scale grants and funding.

  • Pursuing the objective of Pre SI-IMS that is to create and initiate new plans for exploring interdisciplinary ideas in Materials Science.

  • Incorporating the function of Interdisciplinary Materials Science MANA Satellite into SI-IMS.

  • Promoting global partnerships.
Pursuing these objectives enable us to derive stronger connection between NIMS (National Institute for Materials Science) and University of Tsukuba. In addition, SI-IMS strives for a further development of interdisciplinary studies and education in materials science.
